After their trip, guests tell us about their stay. We check for naughty words and verify the authenticity of all guest reviews before adding them to our site.

The staff were welcoming, friendly and very helpful, the facilities are great, bar and garden are both lovely. The food is absolutely sensational, our room was clean and very comfortable. We would highly recommend the Ilch Arms to anyone considering a stay in the area, you will not be disappointed.

We have nothing critical or negative to say!

Perfect location. The breakfast is not very varied, but it is enough to start the day. The towels were changed every day.

Where do I start…… We arrived at the hotel a little later than expected (around 7pm) and had assumed we would be able to check in (which on the booking confirmation stated 3pm). When speaking with the hotel staff at reception we were told our room was still not cleaned and we would have to come back later. Not a great start. We gave them 45 minutes and returned. Trying to find our room was incredibly difficult - the property is poorly laid out with little signs. Not to mention you have to lug your bags up a maze of stairs and the hallways look like they haven’t been cleaned or decorated in about a decade. Once we’d finally found our room we were utterly disgusted at what we’d been given. I had paid extra for a sea view room…. The only view I had was of the buildings next door. There was a disgusting stale sewage smell, the carpet was dirty and worn out to point you didn’t want to take shoes off. The overall size of the room was very small really only 1 person. The shower and bathroom was a joke, not at all what the pictures had shown and not what we’d thought we’d booked! A tiny tiny corner shower that was dirty with a filthy shower tray and bits of the shower itself falling apart. Now onto the service. The overall sentiment was that nobody cared. We were in St Mawes for a wedding and needed an iron + board for our clothes. We asked 3 times before anyone bothered to supply us one. The room and overall experience was so bad we decided to check out after night 1 and find accommodation elsewhere. I had asked for a refund on the 2 other days I’d booked. The lady in reception was utterly terrible with zero customer service focus. She was giving terrible attitude and at no point when we explained our dissatisfaction tried to make anything right. All we were told was “I need to call the manager”.
