I don't know how, but I was assigned a room on the next-to-topmost floor, a 'premium' accommodation. This included unexpected treats like dressing gowns and slippers, complimentary soft drinks and snacks in the minibar, a Nespresso machine with pods, and a whirlpool tub. The bed was huge, well appointed, exceptional linens, and a selection of smunchy pillows that would please anyone. Quite possibly one of the best rooms I have ever had through booking.com. Easy 20 minute walk from Cardiff Central station, mere blocks away from the stadium, pubs, restaurants, and shopping. All in all, a lovely little boutique hotel, ideal for a couple's getaway, but equally suited as a venue for a wedding reception or business conference.

The pricing in the restaurant was not relative to portion sizes. Granted, this is typical of hotel restaurants, but in a city where there are loads of other options readily available for guests, it really is incumbent upon the hotel to set their menu competitively comparable to the area. I ate at the hotel because it was convenient for my purposes (and very late). The menu was varied with plenty of choice, but the pricing was on the eyebrow-raising side of steep for what they had on offer. Note to the chef: two fish fingers and sweetcorn jam in a tortilla shell does not a fish taco make. This dish is lazy, the jam ensogifies the taco shell and fish finger breading, and it has no spice. Perhaps for someone who has never, ever heard of a fish taco it would be interesting, but to me it was just sad, lazy, and not in keeping with the rest of the menu.

There was no sofa as advertised so couldn't come back and relax in the evenings as the chairs around the table are hard. Some dirt in the cupboards. One of the blinds was broken and the window was covered in newspaper, it made the room very warm Generally it was nice enough though for a short break

The gardens were gorgeous, and the breakfast room was beautiful.

The room was slightly dated and paint work needed refreshing. Also the grouting in the bathroom was black in places, needed replacing

Extremely poor housekeeping, left tidy room sign out two days running eventually ran out of handwash also loo rolls. Having to get own tea, milk, sugar and grill own toast at breakfast carrying boiling water quite a distance to our table then go searching for cups. Breakfast was okay , but had much better at other establishments, very little choice on menu and usually arrived only just warm Due to having our dog with us we ate in the tartan room which was very pleasant unfortunately most nights I had to go looking for the menus then find a waiter to take our order. We noticed customers dining in the conservatory at evening dinner appeared to have good service, given jugs of water, had drink orders taken and brought to their table. The majority of the week I had to go to the bar for our own drinks, as we were there for the whole week it would have been good to occasionally have the service offered to other guests. I realise having our dog with us we have to make allowances but we were paying the same for services the other guests were and not getting it. Really sad because the location of the hotel is lovely but we won't be returning. Also poor communication when we arrived the receptionist said she was not expecting a dog, I informed her to look at the two emails I had sent them stating our dog was coming. The second evening the manager came to see us in the tartan room and said we weren't booked in for an evening meal, again I referred him to my email contact. Small things maybe, but you don't want negatively when at the start of your holiday.
