The staff were very friendly. In particular the young lady who served us dinner on the evening of 10th June and breakfast on the morning of 11th was unfailingly helpful, efficient and always had a smile on her face. The hotel was also one of the few places we stayed in our trip that had a gym and pool available, although the gym was small it was reasonably well equipped. We booked two rooms and both had excellent bathrooms with walk in showers. All the facilities in the room worked - which is more than could be said for a couple of the hotels we stopped in during the week. The village was beautiful though it was a bit off the beaten track.

We booked two rooms. One smelt clean and fresh as you walked in; the other smelt stale. We found that the second room had rubber anti-slip mats on all the flat surfaces and no one had bothered cleaning underneath them. We thought this likely the source of the problem. We reported it to reception as we left so, hopefully, the next guests who were provided with the room we stayed in next didn't have the same problem. We thought also thought the food in the restaurant a bit expensive - but they were the only game in town [the local pub was closed]. My mother-in-law, who was with us wanted to stay in a castle. It was only when we got to the hotel we realised it wasn't a "proper" or even a "mock" castle, simply a country house. Had I studied the pictures more closely on Booking.com, I would probably have booked somewhere else.

The beds are so comfy and this is the only place we have stayed that have a perfect size pillow for me. The room is always clean and the staff are always friendly. When travelling home from family we need to stop overnight on the M6 southbound and this is the only place we now use. Easy to drive into and out too.

Room was very comfortable, carpet freshly vacuumed and very clean. Felt comfortable with baby crawling on floor. Seems to be newly renovated. Staff accommodated requests relatively quickly and was able to place us far away from smokey construction area of building to allow baby to sleep.

Cot was not set up/ready despite prior cot reservation. No towels, linen or pillows left for baby either. Was retrieved quickly by staff when asked, though. Shabby building with dark, unused dining area. No highchairs available.
