FAQs about hotels in Melbourne

Buzzy Jewel of Aussie Rules

A thoroughly liveable city, Melbourne has a buzzy vibe and an Aussie sense of fun. There’s always something going on, and one of its many festivals is Moomba – Australia’s largest free arts festival. Well worth a visit are the National Gallery of Victoria and the Melbourne Aquarium, where you can walk through a clear tunnel as sharks swim over your head.

The city’s most recognizable landmark is Flinders Street Station, whose yellow and green façade matches the color of the historic Melbourne trams that still run around the world’s longest tram network. Keep an eye out for the street art as you travel.

Shopping in Melbourne is fantastic. Queen Victoria Market is the largest open-air market south of the Equator, while the La Trobe Street shopping center has over 300 stores. For food, don’t miss Little Italy - the Carlton area.

South of the Yarra River is St Kilda, home to the best beach and Albert Park, where the F1 Australian Grand Prix is held. However, this isn't the city’s only sports heritage. It’s also the home of Aussie Rules soccer and the MCG, a must-see for cricket fans.

Booking.com has a range of Melbourne accommodations from hotels to hostels and motels, some near Melbourne Airport.

Our primary objective was the rugby match between the British & Irish Lions v Australia, so we didn’t do a lot of sightseeing. The transport infrastructure is excellent, so it’s very easy to get around the city.

In Melbourne to visit our daughter which took up most of the short time we were there but did get a chance to go for some walks around the Collingwood/Fitzroy area which we loved, full of good bars and restaurants. Also the Fitzroy and Carlton Gardens which are lovely. Then there was Friday night at the NGV which is always a treat, this time it was the Impressionists exhibition. Love coming to Melbourne.

    Melbourne is great.

Melbourne is great. It is going through a bad time at the moment, thanks to the Dan Andrews and Jacinta Allen governments and their unhelpful attitude to small business. It has too many vacant properties and too many people sleeping rough- if they put this together maybe they could help the homeless properly! But we cannot blame Melbourne for bad socialist government- this has happened before, and somehow, its elegance and culture rise again. It's a very beautiful city and rewards the visitor with sights, sounds, food, and wine that you will always remember fondly.

We loved the free tram service that allowed us to visit so many wonderful places in and around Melbourne City all hours of the day and night. We loved the Markets and St Kilda Beach and the variety of food and culture in the area. The shopping experience is next level as there is so much variety to chose from and there appears to be so many shopping centers all around the city. It is a city that never sleeps with the most eccentric people where you can just sit and people watch all day long. Adriana and George

For people without a vehicle I would strongly suggest that they do the complete loop of Melbourne which only takes 1 day. Get train to Geelong, then bus to Queenscliffe. Then ferry to Sorrento, stay a while and have lunch. Then bus to Frankston and train back to the City. Use a Myki card for trains and buses and the ferry is very inexpensive. All the connnections are very easy and it is a great day out especially if your time in the city is limited.

Superbly located close to Melbourne Airport and the complimentary shuttle to and from the airport was fantastic. Room was beautiful with a big bath and walking-in shower, and the beds were really comfortable. Staff at reception and in the restaurant were top notch, and for a hotel, the restaurant food was good quality and very fairly priced compared to restaurants In Melbourne CBD. Highly recommended.

From the start you are greeted with friendly receptionist staff who are helpful and polite. The building is well kept and the rooms are spacious. Although the hotel doesn’t do breakfast, the recommended restaurant is second to none. The building is also located in the CBD of Melbourne with lots of public transport available to get around the city.

Such great value for money, a short 5 min walk to the closest tram into the heart of the CBD. Clean and comfortable apartment, decent size. Enjoyed the quiet and more relaxing feel of this hotel on the edge of the city. It’s a little gem, will definitely be back for future stays in Melbourne.
