The look of the place. The room was okay, but I was tired from walking and I did not really notice it. I have passed by the hotel for more than sixty years, but I grew up nearby and had no reason to use it. I have worked overseas for several years now, and I only return to my apartment in the UK for a few weeks every other summer, on average. I came walking with fellow teacher with whom I worked in two UK schools, who also knows the Peak. The location, the outside and the inside of the hotel were everything we hoped for. It's very obviously Austenesque, but that will serve to turn a Canadian work colleague in Egypt green with envy. I hope to bring a South African English teacher and family over next year.

Bakewell is a lovely little town. Beautiful river running through, lots of good pubs and a decent Indian restaurant. Not so many shops but everything one would need. We did a brilliant 7 mile walk from the centre, no need to use the car.

    Bakewell was beautiful.

Bakewell was beautiful. A beautiful little village with lots to see and do. Whether it be browsing the good variety of shops or strolling along the river or enjoying time in the recreational park. A spot of lunch or dinner in The Wheatsheaf is just perfect and of course a Bakewell Pudding from the original Bakewell Pudding shop.....
