Stayed there for five nights. Honestly one of my worst experiences in Europe. First my room was in a basement floor which as a result smelled like mold and had absolutely no WiFi reception. The building is very old, each movement in the building was heard in the room, especially since the kitchen was right in front of our room.
The cleaning level wasn’t very good, for some reason the bathroom smelled like a pool and the room was very dusty. On top of that, some of our stuff that were laying on the table were thrown away by the cleaning staff. We spoke with the manager ( IIRC Richi was his name) who insinuated that we are trying to scam the hotel and was not helpful at all!

The location was perfect - right by Edinburgh Waverly and 2 minutes from the Royal Mile. The facilities were perfect - classic hotel, comfortable beds, spacious rooms with high ceilings and elegantly decorated. Despite it's central location, there was no noise from the surrounding streets, making our stay very peaceful. The dinner we had in the Grand Cafe was great. We would definitely stay at the Scotsman on our next visit to Edinburgh and would recommend it to friends.

The wealth of Edinburgh sights ranges from Holyrood Palace to the Botanical Gardens, Princes Street to the Royal Mile. Overseeing them all is majestic Edinburgh Castle. Be there at sunset on a clear day to see the city below bathed in a warm, orange glow. Simply stunning.

SO much to do in Edinburgh so plan accordingly.
Many sites to visit, so the bus tours are a must in order to get around the town in the fastest way. Plenty of shops, cafes, bars, restaurants to pass the time, entertainment abound also.
If you like walking, too, the inclines up to the castle will give you a daily workout.
Would visit again in a heartbeat

Edinburgh is a stunning city and one we found easy to navigate. It hold so much history and the preservation of its history is outstanding. Do book Holyrood Palace and Edinburgh Castle tickets ahead to avoid queues. Hiking Arthur's Seat takes some time so plan for it. Spend some time up on Calton Hill ... views are magnificent and so much to see. Also there are wonderful eateries and restaurants everywhere ... do remember to book your table ahead as it is a busy city with many visitors. We enjoyed Howie's and LuckenBooths. Overall lots to see and do!!

I was here for a concert but enjoyed walking around the Old Town for the great atmosphere and discovering all the cute buildings, streets and alleys (Victoria Street and The Royal Mile are a must-see). Most historical buildings are within walking distance. The Edinburgh Castle is a must-visit. The public transportation is excellent and very easy to use.

Edinburgh is a beautiful city full of independent businesses and plenty to see and do. It’s perfect for any kind of hobby you have; shopping, walking, people watching or reading in cafes etc.
Walking around Edinburgh with the faint sound of bagpipes playing in the streets, artists drawing caricatures, a lovely man with an owl you can hold, there really are so many different ways to create memories there!
I highly recommend the Ghost Bus tour, visiting the castle and cathedral, and Frankenstein’s Bar!

The weather wasn't ideal - even though it was the end of May...
The weather wasn't ideal - even though it was the end of May we assumed we would have sun / cloudy weather. It rained, a lot. We managed to visit Arthur's Seat - this was incredible and one of my main reasons for visiting. We saw Edinburgh Castle, visited a few restaurants and shops as well.
You have to check in at the pub, which is only around the corner from the hotel. Absolutely loved the staff! They were ever so accommodating, especially with complimentary drinks at arrival. Loved the location with it being a good walk to Edinburgh City Centre - where there was a plethora of independent cafes and bakeries selling all sorts of goodies.
When you're done exploring Edinburgh, then the bed doesn't go amiss, along with the en suite facility.
To reiterate, a great family owned establishment at a great location.
THE LOCATION IS IN THE MIDDLE OF OLD TOWN, JUST OFF THE ROYAL MILE. RESTAURANTS ARE STEPS AWAY. 24 HOUR STAFF WERE VERY HELPFUL. THE HOTEL HAS A BAR AND YOU CAN ORDER SNACKS LIKE PIZZA. BREAKFAST WAS AMAZING, PROBABLY THE BEST HOTEL BREAKFAST I'VE EVER HAD. THE STAFF HELD MY SUITCASE FOR 5 DAYS WHILE I WENT ON A SIDE TRIP, WHICH WAS SUCH A CONVENIENCE. THE ROOM WAS SMALL BUT NICE. IT WAS A HOT FEW DAYS AND THERE IS AN AIR COOLER BUT NOT AIR CONDITIONER. I WOULD ABSOLUTELY STAY HERE AGAIN.
Me and my friend have an annual trip to Edinburgh for a couple of nights, and usually use this hotel. It's so close to all restaurants and bars and within walking distance of all of the shops. The Dome is just a short walk away; that's our favourite place for cocktails and food! The station is also just a short walk away, too. Rooms are clean and well maintained, the breakfast is self-service but good enough for a city centre hotel, and the staff are all helpful and friendly.
The location was amazing! We only had a short time in Edinburgh and this flat was a close walking distance to the bus tour pickups, walking tours and the Royal Mile. We were able to walk to the Castle, Greyfriar’s Kirkyard (and Bobby), our bus pickup for a day trip to Loch Ness, the Edinburgh Dungeon, shopping, Victoria Street, etc.! An amazing spot in Old Town Edinburgh! It was also right next to a bunch of Fringe Festival happenings (though we left the day it started.)
We came from Glasgow by bus stopping in front of the Hotel. Reaching Edinburgh city centre is easy (20 min) with many busses stopping in front of the hotel. Very easy to reach Edinburgh Airport by Bus (15 min) or Taxi for early morning flights
Room very nice and comfortable. Pup/Resaurant very good and cheap, with menus includin alcoholic/non alcoholic beverages.
The location in New Town by St. Andrews Square was amazing!!! We were right by a bunch of great restaurants and a Sainaburys Local. All the hop -on -hop off buses start there so that was very convenient. It was also a fairly quick walk to old town / Edinburgh Castle. The vibe of the room and the windows were great! We pretty much had everything we needed.
Lovely clean hotel in a great location. Breakfast was made to order and delicious. Staff are very polite and helpful.
The hotel is surrounded by the best seafood restaurants in Edinburgh. Leith is a great base, lots of lovely restaurants and within easy access to the city centre. Also offers a great bus service.
Staff are always welcoming and friendly. Always remember myself and my daughter and greet us by name when we arrive! We never stay anywhere else in Edinburgh. Can walk to grass Market in less than 5 minutes, Royal Mile in less that 10 and 15 minutes into the full city centre (new town) hotel is spotless
Location was excellent. In new town but close to old town so you can enjoy all of Edinburgh. Apartments were roomy and we'll equipped. Check in and out was easy. Staff was very responsive. We had an issue with the clothes washer that was quickly addressed. Really appreciated the quick response.
This place has lots of character and was better in person! Pleasantly surprised at larger bedroom suite and view of courtyard, great location in New Town area (downhill from Old Town Edinburgh), staff was super friendly and helpful, and the common areas were quite enjoyable.
It’s the best location in Edinburgh for easy access to the train station (just across the street), Old Town and New Town. It’s about as central as you can get. The room was clean, modern and had everything we needed. The Passcode made it easy so we didn’t forget a key ever.
I love the location. Its handy for meeting friends and having a lovely meal in the carvery. Bus stop right outside the front door for buses into Edinburgh City Centre. Have always used this hotel as I like the service you receive from all the staff.
Everything! Large 2 bedroom apartment with two large bedrooms, large kitchen, large living room, everything brand new and bright and beautiful! Perfect location within walking distance to old town Edinburgh
Conveniently located to old town and new town Edinburgh easy walking distance to everything you would want or need. Staff was also excellent helpful in every facet of your needs
The room was absolutely amazing. Perfect for a stay in Edinburgh. It was a beautiful hotel in a great location. Quiet but close for walks and to the city centre.
