Our stay felt like being in a traditional English manor house. The property and the surrounding grounds are absolutely beautiful, and the hotel itself has a wonderful atmosphere. The staff were incredibly polite, friendly, and welcoming. It was a very pleasant and memorable experience.

We had a lovely stay at The Slate. We were welcomed in a friendly and helpful manner, which made us feel comfortable right away. The hotel is nicely situated and is a great starting point for walks in the surrounding area. Bangor is easy to reach by bus or via a scenic footpath. Our room was comfortable, with a good bed and a nice bathroom with a pleasant shower. The hotel also offers convenient options for food and drinks. Unfortunately, we were only able to stay for one night due to travel plans, but we would gladly return for a longer visit. A very nice place to stay.

FAQs about hotels in Wales

Land of the Hills and the Dales

A land of magnificent mountains, centuries-old castles and beautiful beaches, Wales is steeped in proud tradition. A centre of culture, its elegant capital Cardiff houses some of the 5-star hotels in Wales on Booking.com.

Swansea has several Wales hotels with swimming pools and is the gateway to the tranquil Gower Peninsula. It was also the birthplace of Dylan Thomas, whose famous boathouse is in Laugharne near the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.

Within this park are St Davids, the UK’s smallest city, and the colourful South Wales beach resort of Tenby. Other beach resorts include the university town of Aberystwyth, Barmouth and Prestatyn with its Blue-Flag beach. Popular Llandudno has a long pier sheltered by a headland.

Also with a pier is Bangor, opposite Anglesey - a rugged island known for wildlife. It looks back towards Snowdonia National Park, whose changing landscapes encompass Wales’ tallest mountain. Within the park are serene Bala Lake and Betws-y-Coed whose fast-flowing river becomes the Swallow Falls.

The Brecon Beacons house more lush peaks, while Chepstow to the south-east has a racecourse and riverfront Norman castle. Other fantastic Wales castles are in Conwy, Harlech and Caernarfon – possibly the best of them all.

Wrexham is the largest North Wales town with great nightlife, while nearby Llangollen is best known as for its International Eisteddfod.

Llanberis was fine for a couple of nights but really somewhere to base yourself as nothing much in town apart from the train. The Indian restaurant was great. The Craft centre pretty ordinary and the attached coffee shop had run out of milk at lunchtime. The train well worth doing but for a touristy town go to Beddgellert.

Only spent a brief afternoon and evening in the Conwy area. Walked around town which was very nice and great view from bridge of harbour area. Didn’t have time to visit castle. If you are having food by the harbour be aware as the seagulls are very aggressive and will swoop on you to steal your chips. Sounds amusing but I can assure you it isn’t.

The wi-fi worked OK.

The wi-fi worked OK. There was nothing else to like about this accommodation. We stayed in a first floor room which had a shower room off from it. Upon entry, the room was found to be cold, but there was a heater which we had to leave on all the time whilst in the room due to draughty windows. The bed had a thin mattress on it and the bedding was very old and creased, although it did appear to be clean. There was dust all around this room (Dust was actually wiped off of the bedside light!) and the floor coverings were well worn. In the shower room, there was just hand wash gel, nothing else. The soil stack was not boxed in, one of the outlets from the soil pipe appeared to be blanked off by just paper and there was a clearly labelled, but not boxed in, gas pipe (which was blanked off). The room was very cold as there was no radiator in this room, neither was there an extraction fan. There was lots of very poorly applied mastic down one side of the shower tray. Hand towels were not provided and the towels which were provided were old and only medium in size. There was a kettle with two tea bags & no coffee, cups, plates and a few small plates. There were no cooking facilities. If this were our place, we would be embarrassed to advertise it as it is, in our opinion, substandard, suffice to say that we will not visit this place again.
