FAQs about hotels in Wales

Land of the Hills and the Dales

A land of magnificent mountains, centuries-old castles and beautiful beaches, Wales is steeped in proud tradition. A centre of culture, its elegant capital Cardiff houses some of the 5-star hotels in Wales on Booking.com.

Swansea has several Wales hotels with swimming pools and is the gateway to the tranquil Gower Peninsula. It was also the birthplace of Dylan Thomas, whose famous boathouse is in Laugharne near the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.

Within this park are St Davids, the UK’s smallest city, and the colourful South Wales beach resort of Tenby. Other beach resorts include the university town of Aberystwyth, Barmouth and Prestatyn with its Blue-Flag beach. Popular Llandudno has a long pier sheltered by a headland.

Also with a pier is Bangor, opposite Anglesey - a rugged island known for wildlife. It looks back towards Snowdonia National Park, whose changing landscapes encompass Wales’ tallest mountain. Within the park are serene Bala Lake and Betws-y-Coed whose fast-flowing river becomes the Swallow Falls.

The Brecon Beacons house more lush peaks, while Chepstow to the south-east has a racecourse and riverfront Norman castle. Other fantastic Wales castles are in Conwy, Harlech and Caernarfon – possibly the best of them all.

Wrexham is the largest North Wales town with great nightlife, while nearby Llangollen is best known as for its International Eisteddfod.

Lovely location the rooms were very clean and comfortable and the hotel had a welcoming atmosphere. The staff were exceptional, very friendly and helpful on numerous occasions . One young lady on reception went above and beyond to help my 9 year old daughter with anything we needed , I wish I knew her name!! I am gluten intolerant and staff were very happy to accommodate my allergies and made sure I had a safe breakfast. We have just booked in for another short break and I’ve only been home a week !! Thank you staff at the Grand hotel for such a lovely stay and see you tomorrow!!

Found Cardiff very different to all other major Cities we have visited on this trip, basically closes by 4pm on a Sunday for food shopping etc so be organised. Found Cardiff Castle very disappointing & would recommend Caerphilly Castle over it anytime, staff at Cardiff seem disinterested & you have to continually produce your tickets to prove you can be on the grounds. Staff at Caerphilly Castle were fantastic & its a very well set up site with great information & we left very happy. Definitely a very different vibe in Cardiff, maybe it was the time of year & everyone was tired?

I find the major roads in Newport very difficult to comprehend these days, after growing up in Newport. The city has changed, not for the better and is no longer the place I used to love. To access the centre of Newport is difficult by bus as the bus station is no more and is now a few stops here and there. The shopping area of Newport, (Commercial St), is no longer the vibrant shopping place it once was with so many shops having closed down. All the clubs that used to be great for nightlife in the town, have also closed down.

such a lovely historic town with everything within easy reach. lots of independently owned shops offering very unique and interesting items, but also the essentials within easy reach. A pretty park, a quayside on the river, lots of places to eat and very dog friendly. Even the one way system was easy to negotiate, with the excitement of passing through the castle wall arches, just adding to the novelty of this town.

We have been regular visitirs to Betws for several years in early January and stayed in the hotels and rented cottages, along with driving our campervan and staying on the campsite. It is a beautiful place to say but is looking tired. Every year shops state they are holding closing down sales that never happen, they are always there the following year. Several shops were closed this year so sadly thinking of looking elsewhere next January..
