Extremely affordable hostel for a very central York location. I have stayed at this property numerous times and never had a bad experience. Privacy curtains on the bed are a big plus; bafflingly a lot of hostels still don’t have them! The breakfast is decent enough and similarly affordable. Check-in has always been hassle free and the staff are friendly. If you don’t mind staying in shared accommodation then this hostel/hotel is ideal for a night out or for concerts or events in town. Haven’t stayed in their private rooms but know they do offer them too!

The building leaves a little to be desired in terms of overall upkeep but I suspect this has to do with the age of the property. Facilities, particularly the bathrooms, have been somewhat hit and miss in the past.

For the room there was nothing to like. The picture in the web was misleading and the counter staff not helpful. Location was generally fine but not exceptional. Did not take breakfast.

I did not like that I was deceived by the pictures. I booked Compact Double Room, knowing that the room may be "compact" but did not realise it was so compact. The Bed definitely was a super single size and two adults had to sleep on it. With two luggages in the room, there was barely any room to walk. Ideally, this room should be marketed as a single occupant room and not double. Customer beware!! The place is also not elderly friendly, To access the lift, one has to walk up a flight of stairs. With 2 huge luggage and staff not willing to come out behind the counter, it was unpleasant.

The owners came to my room and told that I had check out at 930 , I told reminded them that it was two days so they said they have mentioned in their policy that everyday we have to check out at 930 and re he on at 5pm , which is not mentioned in the anywhere in website I had no car and it was very disturbing , I had friend visiting and were telling me that I did not mention that that person is coming to see me Please let me know if they mentioned somewhere that I missed this point that I had to check out during day and only stay at night

Many aspects of the experience fell below expectations. The place was generally dirty. There were substantial renovations underway. We had to ask for towels. Milk and coffee were far out of date. The WIFI password provided was incorrect.
