This New Zealand city sits in the Waimangu Volcanic Valley, the world’s newest geothermal hotspot. It was created after the 1886 eruption that covered Te Wairoa Buried Village, between 2 of many lakes gracing this fertile terrain. By Lake Rotorua’s shores is the luxurious Polynesian Spa with its thermal pools. Just behind in Government Gardens are the city’s best cultural offerings: the Arts Village, Tamaki Maori Village and Rotorua Museum, in an elegant former bath house.
Native animals roam in Rainbow Springs Kiwi Wildlife Park below Mount Ngongotaha, accessible via the Skyline cable car. The views while ascending make it obvious why this is called the Bay of Plenty. Tikitere Thermal Park on the opposite side of the lake is known as Hell’s Gate, but as long as you can ignore the sulphuric smell, the spas are simply heavenly.
More springs are in Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve, whose surrounding forest is popular for mountain biking, and Wai-O-Tapu where the Champagne Pool is a striking mix of green and orange.

I personally loved how quiet and non busy it was. There were alot of tourist in rotaroua especially at the (Skyline) one of the popular places which was very busy up there, If your interested in going but dislike busy day, I recommend you going at this specific time ( 4:30 - 5:00pm ). What gets me the most is the air smell of Rotoroa, which is quite very strong. Overall I like rotoroa and I would definitely come again.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

Rotorua is an incredible destination, blending natural beauty with unique cultural experiences. The geothermal activity is astonishing—visiting the geysers and hot springs is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The scent of sulfur can be strong at times, but you get used to it quickly, and it's part of Rotorua's unique charm. I loved exploring the Redwood Forest, which offers fantastic walking and biking trails surrounded by towering trees. Maori cultural experiences here are authentic and enlightening—the evening village tours and hangi feasts are not to be missed. There are plenty of adventure options too, like zorbing, mountain biking, and relaxing in the hot pools. The city is easy to navigate, with friendly locals and lots of cafes and restaurants offering a great variety. If you can ignore the smell, then Rotorua is a good place to visit. There is a lot to see and experience, including a walk down to the lakefront and stopping in for an ice cream at Lady Jane's down by the lake. You can take the gondola up to the Skyline restaurant and enjoy the view or even enjoy a luge ride or two. There are a lot of places to choose to eat at, ranging from the simple and less expensive to the more elaborate and more expensive. Try a visit to the Polynesian spas or even Hell's Gate for a mud pool experience. There is a tree walk to experience in the redwood forest or take a walk around the Rotorua gardens. We appreciated the picnic table placed between the two sites. Because it was pouring with rain the small cabin was a bit small for the second night. The management were very helpful in finding a motel booking which was large enough for all of us. It had great facilities and made our stay much more pleasurable in spite of the weather. The receptionist was pleasant enough but the guy at reception was not very friendly. The accommodation was ok but somewhat flimsy. Especially the shower cubical tray did not feel sturdy enough. If someone who is a lot heavier than us was to use it, it felt like it could break. The mattress on the bed was lopsided and dipped in the middle so should be replaced.
