Maldron Hotel Newcastle, hotel in Newcastle upon Tyne

Located in Newcastle City Center, Maldron Hotel features free WiFi and a private court yard.

The hotel staff were all friendly, they made us feel welcome and the check in and out process was very easy and relaxed. It was my husband’s birthday and the staff really made the effort to look after us. The hotel was fresh and perfectly clean. Our room was lovely and had everything we needed, no need to request or pay for extras (e.g. iron, kettle, dressing gown). The location is excellent, we parked in The Gate car park, which the hotel offer discount for, unfortunately our discount didn’t seem to work when we paid, but I’m sure if we had of asked for assistance to resolve this that they would have helped. The breakfast was well presented, plenty of variety, considerate of dietary requirements and tasted lovely. We will definitely stay here again in the future.

Beautiful hotel but unfortunately some previous guests must have smoked in our room as there was a musty smell of cigarettes . But the room was stunning , the shower was glorious!! And the bed is super comfortable, Staff were friendly and very helpful would definitely book again ! Oh and it would be amazing if they could put mirrors above the dressing table . But generally a really lovely place.

FAQs about hotels in Newcastle upon Tyne

The Spirit of the North

A former Industrial Revolution hub, Newcastle has reinvented itself into a vibrant, forward-thinking city. Although no longer brewed here, Newcastle Brown Ale, or Newkie Brown, is synonymous with the city, so it’s no surprise that the nightlife is fantastic.

From the O2 Academy to the Sage Music Center, the Newcastle music venues are among the best in England. The city also has a thriving arts scene, including The Biscuit Factory – Britain’s largest original art store.

Equally as good is the Newcastle shopping. The Central Arcade is in an attractive Victorian building, and across the River Tyne in Gateshead is the Metro Center, Europe’s largest shopping and leisure complex. Indeed, these 2 cities have a healthy rivalry that plays out in sports, architecture and, sometimes, the bizarre.

Gateshead boasts the Angel of The North, a huge statue that is already its most recognized (and controversial) symbol. While in Newcastle the Vampire Rabbit sits above a door near St Nicholas’ Cathedral. Newcastle United Football Club has the most prestigious record, but Gateshead Stadium has seen many a star compete at its international athletics meets.

To the west of the city are some remains of Hadrian’s Wall and further north is Newcastle Airport. See Booking.com for a range of accommodations all over this happening city.

As older travellers with our own transport we had planned to explore the wider area, coast and countryside. This worked perfectly for us and we really enjoyed all our trips. For younger travellers Newcastle does offer abundant nightlife and has great local transport links.

    Friendly city.

Friendly city. Definitely a party place (but I was there for a conference). Crowds on the streets on Saturday night were entertainment in themselves. Good restaurants, great walking along river, interesting older parts of town. Watch out for the steps between upper town (train station) and riverside - 113 between nearest street to train station and my hotel!).

A fun lively city easy to get around with plenty to see and do, I wasn’t there long enough to appreciate it all. We visited the Baltic arts centre and had a great indian meal in the evening at Dabba Wall. I was visiting a friends degree show which was excellent. I would like to visit the castle and museums next visit

I went to a daytime gig featuring Newcastle legends, Archie Brown & The Young Bucks, at the Tyne Bar, which is a great pub and music venue with good food and good beer. The gig was outside under some road bridge arches and next to a dock. I walked from my accommodation in Jesmond down the Ouseburn river, which led directly to the venue in the city centre. There is a path along most of the river apart from a short distance when it goes underground. It's like a free nature trail, full of life and very beautiful. You wouldn't expect to get so close to nature so near a city centre, but Newcastle has this. It was a lovely afternoon/evening watching one of my favourite bands, but I enjoyed the whole day. My only negative was I needed to get some cash and couldn't get to an ATM easily. One of the ones listed on Google was permanently closed and I ended up using a fee-paying ATM in a shop, which I really dislike doing. I had no choice as a local Chinese I wanted to use and my hotel extras had to be paid for with cash.

Wonderful transport system as from the Main line you can go onto Scotland, Liverpool and Manchester. There is also the Metro system which is the Underground local system and within 20 minutes you can be at the Seaside. For those that like shopping centres there is Eldon Square but so many induvial shops and artisan outlets there are so many places to see. The Architecture is wonderfully mixed. There are good outlets for those alternatives that like Forbidden Planet, Damaged, and Geek Retreat shops. There is a great place to eat at the Catholic Cathedral along with a wonderful Cafe as is M and S. There seems to be a Greggs on most streets and lots of individual cafes and dining spots. It's also the only place I know where there is a Greggs cafe within a Primark store.

The location is excellent. Very close to the City Centre, great restaurants, bars, shopping. We checked in on Tuesday 21st November at 3pm. The young lady who checked us in was the epitome of welcoming. very friendly, really warm and welcoming and made it clear that if there was anything she could do to help we only needed to ask. She is a real credit to the Hotel, and indeed Newcastle. These first impressions really last. The room was really what we needed, really comfy bed, great bathroom etc. Really quiet during the night.

The hotel has a retro vibe, with large interior corridors and old lighting chandeliers. It blends in the city centre of Newcastle's architecture. We stayed in the Twin Superior Room, which is very spacious. Good water pressure in the shower/tub. The beds are really comfy. The location of the hotel is very good - close to the railway station, city centre and NUFC stadium. The breakfast has a big variety of food, including traditional English ones.

Brilliant hotel, perfect location for the city centre. Our room on the first floor was very clean and a great size. Very polite and welcoming staff, breakfast service great. The pool/steam room were great The parking (although paid) was convenient being so nearby the hotel, just be careful if Newcastle are playing home as the car park was full on Saturday near 1500 kick off - we managed to get lucky though. Plenty spaces otherwise.

This is the most stunning and beautiful hotel in such a spot-on location for such a low price - we were gobsmacked. Everything about the hotel/building is amazing - the old building is gorgeous, the furniture, design and the artificial flower arrangement around the entrance are amazing.
