At the centre of the Mayan Riveria is Playa del Carmen, a playground for hip Europeans and toned-and-tanned Americans. This resort town showcases the renowned white-sand beaches of the Caribbean Coast along the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico.
Playa del Carmen's powdery white sands are nestled between Cancun to its north, Tulum in the south and the island of Cozumel, 20 km east with its fantastic diving in the nearby Great Maya Reef. Awake from an afternoon nap to take a dip, go snorkelling or deep-sea fishing in the beautiful blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
Playa is an easy choice as a holiday destination with its range of hotels, many first-class restaurants and beachside nightclubs. Quinta Avienda, also known as 5th Avenue, is the main tourist hub and shopping district. For a more authentic Mexico experience, venture outside of the centre to a local cenote (sinkhole) or Mayan ruins in Tulum.
Cruise ships dock in nearby Cozumel and traffic people to the mainland arriving at the Playa del Carmen Maritime Terminal. If the glimmering Caribbean waters are full, then Booking.com has a huge number of hotels with an outdoor swimming pool by the beach.
Lots of vendors. Yeah, that's basically it. Beautiful beaches and then every Mexican trying to rip off tourists by actively approaching them. I don't blame them, not always. They gotta make a living.

Wonderful people and wonderful activities.
Wonderful people and wonderful activities. Dress appropriately for intense sun and be aware that most protected natural areas (reefs, cenotes, etc) do not allow chemical sunscreen or bugspray. Would recommend spacing out activity days and relaxation days so you don't overexhaust but get the best experience.

We felt very safe there.
We felt very safe there. The locals were wonderful and the food everywhere we went was amazing! We of course only used bottled water and the restaurants always offered still or sparkling water. We loved the laid back atmosphere so much in Playa del Carmen that we bought a condo!

50 minute airport ride in the cramped 10 pax van was not a great way to start and end the trip. Note - We booked a private a 16pax bus (there's even a picture of a beautiful mid sized bus) for our party of 10 but no one cared. There's a company in-between booking.com and the company that actually provides the transportation. They all use the same 10 pax vans (they're everywhere) and all blame each other for the confusion. Only thing they offered to do was use 2 of those vans but said we'd have to wait a long time for the second van. Crappy way to start and end the trip and a waste of money. Stay closer to the airport.

Playa Del Carmen is a beautiful, upbeat town!
Playa Del Carmen is a beautiful, upbeat town! I always think of it as a much better version of the Las Vegas strip- minus the casinos. There is so much to do, the water is breathtakingly beautiful, the food is great, and you can easily get around by bike! The ADO bus has routes to Cancun and Tulum and is very affordable! There are several beach clubs in the area and fun bars! I have travelled solo and always felt very safe! My favorite juice bar is Restaurante Nativo! Their fresh squeezed juice prices are unbeatable and always refreshing! I usually visit them several times throughout my trips there! Get out and enjoy everything the town has to offer. Taxis are fairly cheap as well! I stayed off of 38th and 10th about two blocks from Quinta Avenida and it was nice and quiet but still close to the action! Ian with Playa Bike Rentals was great for renting a bike. He dropped it off to me and his price for the week was excellent! No hidden fees or huge deposits! Harry’s is great for a late night cocktail as well! Also, Mahekal Hotel is private but does offer day passes to access their facilities! I highly recommend for the beautiful private beach if you want great cocktails and a beautiful laid back beach day!

we loved Mayan monk, the staff were so lovely and helpful, room spacious, really clean and had everything you needed. the rooftop is gorgeous, not huge but we always got sunbeds and loads of sun, very nice to relax. the hotel is away from the main strip / tourist area of playa del Carmén and in my opinion is much nicer, lots of nice restaurants this side of town and really nice and cheap beach clubs. I’d stay this area again away from rowdy tourists
Big nice rooms, great AC, good shower strength and a great pool. WALMART is three streets up and great for souvenir key chains, magnets and food/juices/water. Playa Del Carmen is nice and a lot of people love taking that stroll down 5th street where all the vendors are trying to sell whatever they can. Playa Del Carmen was a nice stop after Cancun and before Tulum and me and my girlfriend enjoyed this hotel best about the area.
This was my favorite place out of 3 different boutique hotels I stayed at in Playa del Carmen. The location is the best - right on the beach and on 38th, the cutest street IMO in Playa with lots of great restaurant options. I stayed in a penthouse suite, so it was amazing to have more space and my own plunge pool. The rooftop pool was also amazing and one of my favorite parts of the stay. I'll definitely be back here!
Really good location. The beach nearby is great (next to the hilton). Hotel staff (the one that book the room) is friendly and helpful. For example they provided sun umbrellas and sand toys. Our toilet broke and they fixed it the same day. The apartments are spacious and perfect for a group. Playa del Carmen is really lively and you are really close to everything.
Hotel was very comfortable, the rooms were beautiful, staff was very helpful and friendly, and the location was perfect. They offered a very good breakfast. They were very accommodating when we hung out on the beachside all day to attend to what we wanted. The front staff recommended a private guide for a day trip to Chichen Itza that was fabulous.
The location is great, right on the beach!!!! One block to the main restaurants, bars and shops on 5ft ave. . The apartment is beautiful, with all we needed. It is located only 5-6 blocks to Walmart. the balcony is exceptional, you can sit and relax while having a wonderful view, it is one of the best features of the apartment.
This hotel is perfect for visiting Playa del Carmen. The location is very good, in the old town, close to the beach and to bus station. The rooms are spacious and clean, I loved the bathroom. Nice design throughout the building with communal areas where you can relax in the garden.
The best hotel we have ever stayed!
Stuff was amazing, animations were incredible- Thank to Jesus and all crew! Location is really good. Hotel has beautiful beach, pools are amazing. A lot of good food. Thank you for making our holidays unforgettable
if you visit Playa del Carmen don’t miss this unique place. A small well decorated hotel in the best area, the rooms are new and big and there is a nice balcony. We also enjoyed the pool at the roof. The host was amazing. we will come back for sure (:
Very nice hotel in the centre of Playa del Carmen. Very close to the main street. Very clean and very nice big room.
Staff very friendly and always smiling.
Definately I would stay there again if ever go to Playa again
hotel staff was very welcoming. Great location, nearby beach. On the 5th avenue which is the main street in Playa Del Carmen. would definitely recommend. Big thanks to Bruno! Great customer service!
It’s right on the beach and one block from all the shops and restaurants on 5th and it’s next door to an amazing restaurant. The outside of this hotel really is quite charming.
Great location on the beach with easy access to downtown, which is walking distance. Friendly and helpful staff. Good all inclusive options, with great breakfast.
The property is really stylish a boutique hotel in the heart of Playa del Carmen
The jacuzzi is a master for your qualitative time after the beach or excursions
