FAQs about hotels in Auckland

Thrilling City of Sails and Volcanoes

Called the "City of Sails" due to the large number of yachts anchored in Waitemata Harbor, Auckland is the largest city of both New Zealand and Polynesia. Built on the Auckland Volcanic Field featuring about 48 extinct volcanoes, this city truly is a blast!

Auckland is a real cultural mix with strong Asian, European, Maori and Polynesian influences, celebrated in frequent festivals and sports events. Some examples of these cultures can be seen at the Auckland War Memorial Museum, one of the best in New Zealand. For more, try the upmarket dining of Viaduct Harbour.

Another must-see is the tallest free-standing tower in the Southern Hemisphere, the Sky Tower. If you’re feeling up to the challenge, you can even perform the Sky Jump, a controlled base jump from 630 feet!

Climbing the volcanic cones as well as the stunning Auckland Harbour Bridge will provide unforgettable, panoramic views of the city’s skyline. For a different perspective, why not try a cruise or sea kayaking?

Getting to the city center is an easy trip from Auckland International Airport. Find modern hotels, comfortable motels and cheap hostels on Booking.com, sure to have the perfect place to stay for your trip.

We were in Auckland for our daughter's Master's Graduation Ceremony so didn't really explore Auckland too much on this visit. Travel from airport is awful. It has never been brilliant but is certainly much worse. Taxi drivers were just not interested in taking us to Pakuranga. This is 3rd world level. Down town Auckland is slowly getting back on its feet. It should develop it uniqueness.

Make the effort and walk down to the Viaduct area..this place is pumping...loads of choices for food and drink..you can sit and people watch, admire the beautiful yachts, enjoy the friendly atmosphere...awesome buzzy vibe. If you don't feel like walking back to your hotel? there are plenty of taxis around....another tip, if you aren't going far, ask the taxi driver to take you back to your hotel for XXXX (whatever you feel like offering)..most of them will probably happily oblige to have some fare is better than no fare! There are so many road works in Auckland that paying full fare by taxis can be expensive, always try and barter the price before you get in.

Wonderful view over the water and so close to the ferry to Auckland city. Easy to watch the world go by or check out the local area. Great museum, walks up Mt Victoria with spectacular views, funky local cafes and chocolate shop on Lia fab bookstore. The library is a testament to beautiful design and creating creative spaces.

Lovely clean and very new apartments in great location. Rooms had washer and dryer and kitchenette with tea and coffee which was perfect. It had a gym but we didn't use it. Also lots of parking for $25 per night, which in Auckland prices is reasonable compared to other hotels. Staff were very helpful and friendly and gave great recommendations for food near by. We checked in late but they have a call centre that helped us with an easy check in which was perfect. Will definitely come back again.

Arrived early from a long flight and the staff was so kind to let us check in early and freshen up in our room. The ability to shower and get a nap in before we started our trip was absolutely a game changer. Thank you QT Auckland. This is hospitality at its finest! Location could not be beat, easily walkable to a lot of destinations and the rooms are lovely. Nice hotel, friendly staff, lovely very acceptable rooms. Accomodating and stress free. Trustworthy, and very clean. Big difference from another motel I stayed at near Auckland airport. Prefer comfort, safety, cleanliness and a professional attitude over price. Fancy hotel without charging the extra cost for the design. Confortable public places with a lot of amenities useful for budget travelers. Location is amazing. Ok, not in the exact heart of Auckland but pretty close, so don't pay the extra value to be exactly there. Ok, my room didn't had a window but that's why I was paying a very affordable price for the basic necessities, no need more for a couple of days in the city.

Everything was fine at this hotel except for one main thing. Auckland CBD continues to be a long-standing subway construction-nightmare and sadly this hotel is in the middle of it. You can get around ok, but driving in it is nasty, and it’s also just a horrible look. Perhaps it will be completed this year, but for right now, I’d stay away from the construction. Down by the Viaduct for example.

The lower (cheaper) one bedroom floors are not so great - on 2/F there is quite a bit of street noise, but upper floors with a suite type - bedroom and kitchen/living room woith balcony are excellent and still good valiue
