One of the best cities I have visited and I have been travelling for 61 years. Fun getting around on the trams and with enough cultural highlights - museums and galleries - for those who don't take selfies and prefer to linger in those museums and galleries. Good local food if you look for it but there are a lot of expensive places catering to tourests.

Excellent public transit. Loved Alfama, Cascais, and Sintra.

Excellent public transit. Loved Alfama, Cascais, and Sintra. Rosario area was also very fun. Definitely try out Bifanas (under €5) and Pasteis De Nata (€1.00-€1.70)from a local shop. The cherry liquor (Ginjinha) was fun to taste at around €1/shot. Shout out for a great, affordable taberna experience at A Provinciana. Touring inside of several of the city’s monuments was outside our budget, but we found exploring the city by foot, taking local buses, walking along the water, seeking out miradouros, and exploring colorful winding streets fun and affordable. If you’re in town on a Friday or Saturday, walking near metro stations and in Alfama will take you past different street musicians who play and sing beautifully.

Lisbon is one of those rare cities that somehow manages to...

Lisbon is one of those rare cities that somehow manages to be both vibrant and laid-back at the same time. Strolling through its streets feels like walking through a living postcard – pastel-coloured houses, patterned tiles that catch the sunlight, and trams climbing impossibly steep hills. Every corner reveals another viewpoint (miradouro), where the Tagus River glitters in the distance and you can simply sit, sip a coffee, and watch life go by. Beyond the city, you’ll find something for every mood. Just 30 minutes away, there are golden beaches like Cascais and Carcavelos, perfect for sunbathing, surfing, or evening walks with your feet in the water. Head west and the dramatic cliffs of Cabo da Roca – the westernmost point of mainland Europe – will take your breath away. To the north, the magical town of Sintra hides palaces and gardens that look like they’ve been taken straight from a fairytale, nestled among green hills and shaded forests. For nature lovers, the Arrábida Natural Park offers hiking trails with panoramic views over turquoise bays, and tiny hidden beaches you might have all to yourself. And then there’s the food – fresh seafood straight from the Atlantic, pastéis de nata still warm from the oven, and market halls where the air is filled with the smell of grilled sardines. Pair it with a glass of vinho verde or a sunset cocktail on a rooftop bar, and you’ll understand why people fall in love with Lisbon. Lisbon is not just a place to see – it’s a place to feel. The light, the music, the people, the slow rhythm of afternoons… it stays with you long after you leave.

Great City-lots to do, we visited as a family of five-children age 14,12,9. We stayed in a great hotel (Corinthia) with a pool which added to the fun. Beautiful views and a fun adventure if you get tram 12 especially at sunset. Lots of cute little family friendly places to eat and drink and wonderful ice cream, sweets and pastries, as well as Time out Market which was a fun experience. Not cheap but it’s a City. Wonderful mix of shops and beautiful buildings. It is very hilly which wasn’t a problem for us and there is good transport but might be a problem for less mobile people or younger children. We managed Benfica Stadium and the Beach too from the City. All in four days. Needed longer really. Would return! Maybe in spring as August was very hot.

This hotel is an experience which defeats all competition in its price range, and even above, and all airbnb's in a city. Since prices of housing are really high in Lisbon, this was not a cheap stay. But if you have to spend this amount of money, no other option makes more sense. Great location (in between 2 metro stops, 30 minutes from airport, 10 minutes from the coast); great staff, very helpful, kind; good room cleaning; breakfast is not really quality, but the bakery and sweets are good. Bed was huge, pillows were good. WiFi 6.

The best boutique hotel we have stayed in so far in Lisbon. Just perfect at a good price. This is the second of the Lisbon Heritage Collection hotels we have stayed in - the other, Janelas Verdes Inn, was almost as good. The location is perfect, great room, beautiful, understated décor, outstanding breakfast and wonderful staff. Fair parking price. Also decent food in the bar. I've run out of superlatives. We have tried maybe a dozen different hotels in Lisbon and this now goes to the top of our list.
