At the centre of the Mayan Riveria is Playa del Carmen, a playground for hip Europeans and toned-and-tanned Americans. This resort town showcases the renowned white-sand beaches of the Caribbean Coast along the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico.
Playa del Carmen's powdery white sands are nestled between Cancun to its north, Tulum in the south and the island of Cozumel, 20 km east with its fantastic diving in the nearby Great Maya Reef. The beach wasn't swimmable because it had a lot of rocks, a lot of seaweed and the hotel didn't clean it. Go to Cancún, Playa del Carmen is not beautiful. The resort: Yucatan princess was the worst part, as the food served there was horrible. I came home very sad.

It’s home of CocoBongo and it’s safe for you to walk all over! I like to stay at Playacar and it is a short bike ride from Playa Del Carmen our a taxi ride.

Having spent some time in Cancun, (zona hotelera) before visiting playa del Carmen, I think I would definitely prefer the beaches in Cancun. Playa del Carmen had a lot of seaweed and I found that unpleasant. The sea was alright, the facilities we didn't use because our accommodation was right in front of the beach.
