At the centre of the Mayan Riveria is Playa del Carmen, a playground for hip Europeans and toned-and-tanned Americans. This resort town showcases the renowned white-sand beaches of the Caribbean Coast along the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico.
Playa del Carmen's powdery white sands are nestled between Cancun to its north, Tulum in the south and the island of Cozumel, 20 km east with its fantastic diving in the nearby Great Maya Reef. Awake from an afternoon nap to take a dip, go snorkelling or deep-sea fishing in the beautiful blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
Playa is an easy choice as a holiday destination with its range of hotels, many first-class restaurants and beachside nightclubs. Quinta Avienda, also known as 5th Avenue, is the main tourist hub and shopping district. For a more authentic Mexico experience, venture outside of the centre to a local cenote (sinkhole) or Mayan ruins in Tulum.
Cruise ships dock in nearby Cozumel and traffic people to the mainland arriving at the Playa del Carmen Maritime Terminal. If the glimmering Caribbean waters are full, then Booking.com has a huge number of hotels with an outdoor swimming pool by the beach.
We felt very safe there. The locals were wonderful and the food everywhere we went was amazing! We of course only used bottled water and the restaurants always offered still or sparkling water. We loved the laid back atmosphere so much in Playa del Carmen that we bought a condo!

50 minute airport ride in the cramped 10 pax van was not a great way to start and end the trip. Note - We booked a private a 16pax bus (there's even a picture of a beautiful mid sized bus) for our party of 10 but no one cared. There's a company in-between booking.com and the company that actually provides the transportation. They all use the same 10 pax vans (they're everywhere) and all blame each other for the confusion. Only thing they offered to do was use 2 of those vans but said we'd have to wait a long time for the second van. Crappy way to start and end the trip and a waste of money. Stay closer to the airport.

Playa Del Carmen is a beautiful, upbeat town!
Playa Del Carmen is a beautiful, upbeat town! I always think of it as a much better version of the Las Vegas strip- minus the casinos. There is so much to do, the water is breathtakingly beautiful, the food is great, and you can easily get around by bike! The ADO bus has routes to Cancun and Tulum and is very affordable! There are several beach clubs in the area and fun bars! I have travelled solo and always felt very safe! My favorite juice bar is Restaurante Nativo! Their fresh squeezed juice prices are unbeatable and always refreshing! I usually visit them several times throughout my trips there! Get out and enjoy everything the town has to offer. Taxis are fairly cheap as well! I stayed off of 38th and 10th about two blocks from Quinta Avenida and it was nice and quiet but still close to the action! Ian with Playa Bike Rentals was great for renting a bike. He dropped it off to me and his price for the week was excellent! No hidden fees or huge deposits! Harry’s is great for a late night cocktail as well! Also, Mahekal Hotel is private but does offer day passes to access their facilities! I highly recommend for the beautiful private beach if you want great cocktails and a beautiful laid back beach day!

I went there to see a dentist.
I went there to see a dentist. The cost to fly there and stay for week plus the dental visit was less than my cost do it here at home. So, I was there for a week.
The beaches are beautiful and the sun is strong! PDC has a busy shopping district that you have to see. 5th Ave is about 2 miles of shops and restaurants and other services like massages and pharmacies. Lots of junk and somewhat aggressive shopkeepers trying to get you into their store.
The roads that run parallel to 5th are also full of shops and restaurants, but at a much quieter pace. 1st and 10th Ave are a welcome relief from the hustles on 5th.
Be aware of scammers on 5th saying "remember me from the hotel" also you will be offered weed and cocaine many times a day when you walk up and down 5th Ave. You will get used to saying "no thank you" and just keep saying it.
PDC is safe, just keep you're head on straight and don't get too drunk while you're there. And make smart decisions.
PDC is a 3 hour bus ride to Chichen Itza and that is the must see of any trip the region.

The hotel was beautiful, clean and well considered. The room was huge and well decorated and you could choose between sitting on the beach or heading to the rooftop infinity pool. Breakfast was epic, as was the tuna burger at the rooftop restaurant. We had a glorious time at Mvngata.
You can also walk the beach and find places to have a massage or a beer or a swim in a designated swimming area. The hotel is tucked away from the busy of Playa del Carmen city but there’s still enough going on if you want to get away from the hotel.
Staff, they are great. All inclusive to the parks is worth the price you pay for the room. Many restaurants to choose from, the quality of the food is excellent. Transportation from/to the hotel to the parks is efficient. Additional tour options. Best place to spend your vacación if traveling to Cancun. I will come back with my family. Suggest to get a room with ocean view. If you are traveling with kids, then select a room in the area where the kids pools is, they will enjoy that. There are areas for adults only.
We chose Playa del Carmen because it is much closer to the cenotes, Xcaret, Chichen Itza, Tulum, and Coba than Cancun. From all the Playa del Carmen resorts, Reef Coco Beach is one of the few that are right in downtown, so no hotel transport or taxi is needed when you stay here and want to venture out in the city. The resort is on a beautiful property with a huge pool and lots of palm trees. The staff is amazing and the buffet food is really good. The rooms are spacious with balconies and cleaned daily.
This hotel has an excellent location, one street far from the Fifth avenue which is the main street in town, 3 streets far from the ADO stop (Playa del Carmen Alterna). Plenty of restaurants, bars and shops close by however, the rooms insulation is so good that we didn't get disturbed by the hectic weekend night life. There is a 7 Eleven and a fantastic place for breakfast at the corner.
The room was very big and comfortable. Excellent and quiet aircon. Good WiFi.
The staff was friendly and helpful.
We had a nice stay over New Years Eve. Location is great for anyone looking to bar hop, shop, or people watch on 5th ave. The front staff was very nice and the parking lot was secure. Cute coffee shop downstairs was perfect for breakfast and beds were super comfortable! We were given a hotel on the 2nd floor which opened up to the pool which was nice. I've ready many reviews about the noise from restaurants/bars downstairs, but it didn't bother us at all.
Great staff, the employees are amazing! Carlos jaykar and alberto were super nice to us!!
The hotel is in a great location, 5-10 minutes walk from each part of the city.
The room was clean, the ac is amazing, the pool is incredible.
The price is super cheap compared to other places around. I recommend everyone to go there, this is the best hotel we have been on durning our trip!!
An excellent hotel very well located in downtown Playa del Carmen. The rooms are very spacious and very well decorated. The beds are very good and the housekeeping is well done. The "all inclusive" formula is very advantageous. All meals (breakfasts, lunches and dinners) are of very good quality and even refined. The Mexican and Asian restaurants are recommended.
The hotel was fine, It's not a fancy hotel but It have all that you need to stay one o two nigth. The room was very clean and the employees were very friendly. I think It's a good place if you are going to playa del Carmen for business or travel alone, so it is not a good idea to go with children.
Room was good, breakfast was really excellent with loads of choice. The hotel was on the beachfront and had lots of pool options. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Location was brilliant and very easy to reach from Cancun airport and travel to nearby areas.
The room was very clean, modern, and comfortable. Was not aware that there was also a washer and dryer in the room, so that was a bonus. Easy to walk to all of the shops and restaurants, although the restaurant in the hotel was very good and on the beach.
if you visit Playa del Carmen don’t miss this unique place. A small well decorated hotel in the best area, the rooms are new and big and there is a nice balcony. We also enjoyed the pool at the roof. The host was amazing. we will come back for sure (:
Still one of the best hotels in Playa del Carmen. Perfect rooftop with all amenities, good studio or one bedroom rooms, friendly and efficient staff. After staying there for about 10 times I still keep coming back
Clean, well-manicured grounds. Right on the beach in the heart of Playa Del Carmen, so you can get a sense of the city and retreat to the private resort. Great location. Staff were really nice. Food was good!
room was nice and big, bright and the hotel itself was pretty. Location great, few steps from beach. The pool was clean and pretty. A fair price considering how expensive Playa del Carmen is now
