Food, Fado and Fun in Lisbon

Built on seven hills facing the Tagus River, charming Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world. It showcases unique tram rides, intimate Fado performances, great dining venues and much more.

The city is famous for its districts: Belem's famous monuments; Alfama's labyrinth of streets, bars and small shops; and trendy Alcantara's docks. Lisbon’s most popular nightlife and shopping venues are in Bairro Alto, while the traditional heart of the city beats rhythmically in Baixa.

Enjoy a walk through Jardim Botanico, admire the architecture of the Jeronimos Monastery or explore the Feira da Ladra flea market. The Chiado area serves the city's best traditional Portuguese cuisine. No meal is complete without the famous pasteis de nata!

Getting to the city center is only a metro or bus ride from Lisbon Portela Airport. Whether you want a luxury hotel, a friendly guesthouse or a cozy apartment, Booking.com has plenty of accommodations for your vacation in Lisbon.

If you like cafe's, bars and small boutique shops, for a range of tastes and prices, it's a great place to explore. The views are awesome, and the museums and public buildings are great. It is very hilly and the traffic is quite busy, but public transport is excellent with good trams, buses and tuk-tuks in the city, and some trains running quite late. The river is lovely but you need to take public transport to the beaches (not too far). Everyone we met spoke English well. If you are looking for nightlife, there are many small bars all over town, and a couple of busy areas designated for later revellers.

The main purpose of my stay was to explore housing options in Lisbon, so no tourist activities. Having visited before though my main recommendations, just like for any other central and southern European countries is to travel in late May or mid September. Certainly less tourists to "deal" with and the weather is much more moderate and makes exploring European cities, which requires plenty of walking, much more enjoyable.

Beautiful city, we really loved it. Friendliest people I've ever come across, and I have done quite a bit of travelling. Very polite drivers, we only heard a horn beep once for the whole weekend! Tuk Tuks are a must, great fun. Ubers are very cheap too. Absolutely amazing food, and every local wine recommended to us was delicious. We will definitely be back!

There were dr*g dealers everywhere offering drugs constantly. I was cornered by 5 of them at one point. I didn't feel safe here at all. The city was unclean and dog fouling was everywhere! The sights were amazing but it was marred with negative experiences throughout. Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend this city. Let alone return.

Lisbon is wonderful city break with lots to do and see.

Lisbon is wonderful city break with lots to do and see. It is a very vibrfant city with a lot of culture. Make sure you bring you walking shoes and are prepared to walk up some steep hills pearticulalrly in the old city and near the castle. You can take lots of modes of transports like a tram, a Tuk Tuk or bus to these steep locations. I wouldn't recommend hiring a scooter or bicycle up these hills, but would keep this experience for flatter ground. Scooters should be for very short range trips. We enjoyed hiring the GIRA electric bike and road along the coast up to the beaches. We would recommend GIRA because it is so much cheaper than the other comapnioes like LIME/UBER etc. The trams are great, make sure you try them. The castle experience is also worthwhile. We went to a wonderful flea market that runs on a Tuesday and Saturday in Campo de Santa (Fiero da Ladra). Enjoy Lisbon.

Better and more friendly service than I've gotten in most 5 star hotels. Everyone from the front desk, to the bar tender, to the restaurant staff to the room cleaners - All of them were truly exceptional and friendly. The room itself was spacious, clean, and sexy. Bigger than the pictures make it seem. The restaurant food was also great, and make sure you catch a cabaret show while you are here. It is worth the money! Finally, it is located centrally, right next to metros, bars, and restaurants. You won't do better in Lisbon.

On arrival the staff on reception were so welcoming, pleasant, and helpful, explaining everything we needed. We loved the room, the service and the breakfast, but most of all, the perfect location. It was in walking distance of everything we wanted to see. The reception staff gave us all the information we needed to get the most out of Lisbon in the couple of days we had. Overall, 5 stars. We had a wonderful time - thank you to everyone at the hotel.

Nice spacious rooms. Bit outside of the city centre, but with the metro very close this is a perfect location for a Lisbon city trip. Comfortable beds. No sound from outside. Which surprised me, as it's a busy street and aircraft fly really low over the hotel. Easy reachable from the airport. I used the metro, which in hindsight was not even the best solution. Metro takes about 40 minutes, where the bus would take only 15.

Decor, space and location excellent. Liked the separate kitchen/dining/lounge area. A small cafe right next door was great at end of a day exploring Lisbon. Tram terminus and Square also had a great vibe and only 100m from Hotel. Of our 2 weeks in Spain and Portugal we rated our stay in Lisbon (Boutique Chiado Apartments) the best!
