FAQs about hotels in Melbourne

Buzzy Jewel of Aussie Rules

A thoroughly liveable city, Melbourne has a buzzy vibe and an Aussie sense of fun. There’s always something going on, and one of its many festivals is Moomba – Australia’s largest free arts festival. Well worth a visit are the National Gallery of Victoria and the Melbourne Aquarium, where you can walk through a clear tunnel as sharks swim over your head.

The city’s most recognizable landmark is Flinders Street Station, whose yellow and green façade matches the color of the historic Melbourne trams that still run around the world’s longest tram network. Keep an eye out for the street art as you travel.

Shopping in Melbourne is fantastic. Queen Victoria Market is the largest open-air market south of the Equator, while the La Trobe Street shopping center has over 300 stores. For food, don’t miss Little Italy - the Carlton area.

South of the Yarra River is St Kilda, home to the best beach and Albert Park, where the F1 Australian Grand Prix is held. However, this isn't the city’s only sports heritage. It’s also the home of Aussie Rules soccer and the MCG, a must-see for cricket fans.

Booking.com has a range of Melbourne accommodations from hotels to hostels and motels, some near Melbourne Airport.

Staying in the centre of Melbourne is good to be able to...

Staying in the centre of Melbourne is good to be able to walk around and see the many parts of Central Melbourne and visit galleries and museums and shops etc. Trams and/or buses are great for getting you around and out further to some areas. We recommend visiting Lygon Street for the many eateries on offer. Como House is interesting to visit, so ensure you go on a tour day as the inside is the really interesting part and you can't access it unless on a tour. There are lots of choices of what to do and see in Melbourne, so allow yourself plenty of time to see things, but also to enjoy the ambience of sitting at a cafe and sipping on a cappuccino too.

We brought our granddaughter to Melbourne for a special holiday for her 8th birthday. Did the things she wanted to do and they exceeded expectations. Went to the Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium, Legoland, Melbourne Museum. We had a wonderful holiday. We ate at various places and did a lot of shopping. Melbourne is such a great place. New and old blend together well. Taxi drivers were friendly and courteous and some of them were very informative about locations and places to go.

Great city to visit. Plenty to do and see.

Great city to visit. Plenty to do and see. But budget beforehand! Lots of tours etc are quite expensive so you have to pick and choose your top deals. Public transport is great and also reasonable cost. CBD trams good. But getting to some of the out of the way places like Phillip Island are lengthy and inconvenient. So kind of forced to choose tours. Restaurants aplenty. Great eating all over the city. We visited the zoo, museum, art gallery, Sea Life, Library, markets... Sea Life slightly underwhelming for the price. But if you've never been to something like that before it would be good. Zoo free for kids in the weekend. Museum is great. Library awesome for architecture and design. Shopping malls great but confusing layouts.

I actually live and work in Melbourne. It's a great place with plenty to do for all age groups. I stayed the night in a Hotel because I was going to the theatre with friends and didn't want to travel home afterwards. It was a nice way to spoil myself and have a lazy morning resting at the end of a long working week.

The apartment is privately owned so the desk doesn’t have access to the room so when I lock my key inside the room on a Saturday evening I made contact with the owner through the emails I had received with instructions on our arrival, and was totally surprised & appreciative of the prompt response in a reply email & a 30 minute wait for the host to drive into the City & open the room for us, done with cheer & total understanding.👍😑

Fantastic location just outside the CBD and with immediate access to great restaurants. Major museums, parks, and galleries are within easy walking distance, with easy access to public transport. Hotel staff were very helpful, professional, and accommodating. The vibe of the common areas and the rooms is modern, positive, artful, and fun. Room aren't huge, but well outfitted, with great showers, bathrooms, and bed. Breakfast is available on the ground floor, and the food is decent and well priced. Can't beat the location.

Great location and friendly staff. Everything you need in a room, nice bed, quiet, warm, a nice little kitchenette with cups, plates bowls, cutlery. Bathroom had a big bath! That’s always a plus for us. Parking right next to hotel, $35 a night, quite reasonable for a capital city. Easy to drive to hotel as it’s at located at east edge of cbd, moments walk to trams, trains, parks, theatres. A woolies metro supermarket around the corner. The location was convenient and accessible to the Melbourne CBD. There was a tram stop right outside the hotel. The check in process was easy, Nick was friendly and very helpful. Bonus for having a lift; especially with lots of luggage.
