FAQs about hotels in Melbourne

Buzzy Jewel of Aussie Rules

A thoroughly liveable city, Melbourne has a buzzy vibe and an Aussie sense of fun. There’s always something going on, and one of its many festivals is Moomba – Australia’s largest free arts festival. Well worth a visit are the National Gallery of Victoria and the Melbourne Aquarium, where you can walk through a clear tunnel as sharks swim over your head.

The city’s most recognizable landmark is Flinders Street Station, whose yellow and green façade matches the color of the historic Melbourne trams that still run around the world’s longest tram network. Keep an eye out for the street art as you travel.

Shopping in Melbourne is fantastic. Queen Victoria Market is the largest open-air market south of the Equator, while the La Trobe Street shopping center has over 300 stores. For food, don’t miss Little Italy - the Carlton area.

South of the Yarra River is St Kilda, home to the best beach and Albert Park, where the F1 Australian Grand Prix is held. However, this isn't the city’s only sports heritage. It’s also the home of Aussie Rules soccer and the MCG, a must-see for cricket fans.

Booking.com has a range of Melbourne accommodations from hotels to hostels and motels, some near Melbourne Airport.

    Superb city.

Superb city. My stay at Holiday Inn Express is very near to the Southern Cross Railway Station. Restaurants, eateries all around the place. Also lucky to find some Indian restaurants like Saravana Bhavan, Punjab Grill, Dosa etc. Victoria Market & other places of city center is beautiful to visit & enjoy.

Melbourne is a very interesting city.

Melbourne is a very interesting city. There is so much to do. Galleries, theatres, walking along the river, beaches a tram ride away. The weather can be a bit unreliable. The free tram within the CBD makes getting around really easy.

Melbourne is a great city with so much on offer all year from food, all types of music, theatre, sports, jazz cubs, river cruises, exploring street art, pubs, museums, shopping and anything you can possibly want really. Some of my favourite things to do there have been music gigs in underground venues or stadiums, jazz bars, Chinatown dinners, breakfast at cafes in the Flinders laneways, street art walking tours, bike hire and exploring the suburbs and coast line all the way to Brighton. AFL football, F1, Moomba festival along with Australian Open tennis all take place in the city. I liked visiting The Esplanade in St Kilda for nightlife and bands, checking out the pier and the beach and Luna Park with kids. Skate bowl, Queen Victoria Market, The Zoo and the aquarium are also big hits. Old Melbourne Gaol is a nice experience of the past along with the Immigration museum and Captain Cook's cottage. All trams within the city circle are free so that is a huge bonus as well- so easy to get around!

We were able to travel to nearby Carlton for a great meal at Papa Ginos and then we found an excellent Thai restaurant in Collins Street down in Docklands, the city shops were easy to access and free trams helped. The city was crowded but we managed easily and there were lots of things happening. We had excellent access by public transport from Winston Apartments Docklands. A great place to stay.

Only got to stay overnight so no time to do anything. I ensured my car could remain at my accommodation while I attended my appointment. Always check with your accommodation about parking. Some can arrange parking for you at a cost and some do not have parking at all and you have to find your own, also at an extra cost. I love Melbourne though, so many things to do and see. Before travelling home I went to Altona to see their new Pier.

Loved the sights we viewed and the places we visited but the traffic is horrendous and the lack of free parking obvious plus being too expensive but in saying that most drivers were courteous. Food choices were in abundance whereever you went to suit anyones palate with prices depending on what you were looking for and we will definitely be back sooner than later Cheers.

It is beautiful scenery in balcony of 1 bedroom apartment. It is very NICE of 1bedroom apartment more spacious with dish washer and washing machine than Melbourne CBD Hotel rooms. Reception staff are very friendly. I left valuable in lobby and he did CALL to inform me and hold in office for me. It is very GOOD of family with children to stay in 2 bedroom apartment with kitchen facilities etc. It is EXPENSIVE to go out to eat in Melbourne for dinner relatively to Brisbane and Adelaide. GOOD kitchen in apartment.

We had the most amazing stay at the Grand Hyatt. Our booking was upgraded at no extra charge to a room with the most incredible, uninterrupted views of the Melbourne CBD and surrounds. The hotel itself is luxurious and cosy, perfect for our winter getaway. The bed was really comfy and even though we were located in the heart of the city the room was very quiet, we slept so well. The staff were friendly and professional. We'll definitely be back!

Quincy is a modern, boutique-style hotel, with a funky atmosphere. The rooms are nicely decorated. I loved the pink tiles in my bathroom and the potent shower. The hotel had a heated lap pool on the top floor. The place was conveniently located in the CBD close to all the amenities. The restaurant had a fancy Asian fusion-style type of food. Everything was reasonably priced.

Bed and pillows were really comfortable and the King room had a terrific city view as well as feeling very spacious. The cafe downstairs served the best coffee of my Melbourne trip.
