Hotel in Shipston-on-Stour
Located in Shipston on Stor, 28 mi from Oxford, The Bower House is Grade II listed building dating from 1731. Guests can enjoy the on-site restaurant and bar. The accommodation was beautiful and top of the range in everything. The building is historic and contains just a few rooms with stairs and no lift obviously. The bathroom was huge. The bath was so big I only used it once as I had difficulty getting out of it. But the shower was great with a huge showerhead like a dinner plate. Lots of lovely bathing/hair products for use if required. Very luxurious with marble everywhere. I loved the wallpapers used in the other rooms. There was a large fan in the room that was very useful during the mini-heatwave we have just had. If you show your key to the staff in the excellent deli which is next door, you will get a 10% discount (owned by the same person apparently). I think this could be advertised better. The breakfasts were delicious with lots of choice. Proper lattes on offer too as part of the deal. My partner said the scrambled eggs were lovely and he is very hard to please! My favourite was the pancakes with maple syrup, berry compote and vanilla ice cream (an enormous plate of food though - you won't need to eat for the rest of the day). The staff were lovely, especially the restaurant manageress who looked after us most of the time. Everything was Covid safe with all staff wearing face masks. There are plenty of places to eat and drink in Shipston-on-Stour. There is a very good Italian restaurant at the bottom of the road but you will need to book as it is very popular (just ask the man at the door to book your in). We ate in the Bower House restaurant on our last night. It was a bit expensive but good quality food. Their restaurant is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. There is not alot to do in Shipston so we drove out to other places. Stratford on Avon was quite close. Warwick too but another time. And lots of Cotswold villages and towns. I would say for the money we paid it was exceptional value. We hope to be back.

Burford
The hotel was home to an excellent Italian restaurant. The ambiance of the hotel and restaurant fit in perfectly with our expectations of a small boutique inn of the Cotswolds. Wonderful antiques, creaky stairs and cozy rooms. We enjoyed a drink in the pub downstairs as well. And walking the quiet streets and alleyways of Burford was a wonderful experience in the evening. Scents of flowers in gardens and the sound of the church bells made it memorable. Definitely recommend this town and this hotel as a base for exploring the Cotswolds.
The restaurants in the hotel were first-rate, both for formal and casual dining. The room was large and comfortable and air conditioned, which was really nice as it was warm when we were there. There was just the right combination of lovely and comfortable. They also put our party in rooms on the same floor--anyone who travels in a group knows how helpful that is. The location was perfect for our five night stay in the Cotswolds and there were also other good restaurants in the town.
Great location for the Cotswolds. The clue is in the name of the Hotel... It is the Gateway. Not posh or chintzy, just Proper comfy relaxed place to be. Especially when the open log fire was stoked. No nonsense caring team who all work extremely well together, which does give confidence to all the guests. The chefs know how to prepare and cook a real Full English, probs one of the best we have had. The evening meals are equally good. Would we re visit....You bet.
Chipping Campden
Chipping Campden was a great base for our stay in the Cotswolds, and The Woolmarket is near to everything--with a little grocery across the street, a great pub around the corner, and a couple restaurants within a stone's throw. Breakfast was very good. (And their melon and berries were unparalleled.) We always found free parking on the street, within 100' of the hotel. Our room was nicely appointed, and the old beams were an attractive feature; modern bathroom.
A lovely Hotel could not fault anything If you want a very nice place to stay in Cotswold area Stay here and you will not be disappointed Place is spotlessly clean. room comfortable bed especially Staff very willing and pleasant Breakfast superb as were our evening meals beautiful gardens to wonder round and an easy route to the rest of Cotswolds We went as a couple however dogs are welcone as well Just want to say thankyou everyone for a very lovely 3 day break.
We had a lovely surprise on arrival - we had been upgraded from a Deluxe Double to the Garden Suite - Room 305 This was a 4 poster room with private garden and terrace The staff were lovely - nothing was too much trouble for them Ate once in the restaurant - lovely meal can recommend Moreton ideal as a base for exploring the Cotswolds - 15-20 minutes from Broadway, Stow and Bourton 25 minutes from Stratford, 30 minutes from Cirencester
Broadway
The Hotel was very clean, comfortable and welcoming. Beautifully and tastefully decorated throughout. Staff were all friendly and helpful. The location in Broadway and indeed in the Cotswolds AONB could not be better. Note: only 20 minutes drive from Cheltenham and the Races and a mere 45 minutes from Blenheim Palace, detouring through other beautiful Cotswolds Villages on your way.
Stow on the Wold
The Inn being the oldest in Britain was quaint charming and beautifully appointed. The food was of a high standard and nothing to do with “pub grub”. Excellent plating, fresh produce you could taste all the flavours with both vegetables and fish/poultry done just right! Porch House Hotel is a great start to a gastronomic feast of a holiday in the Cotswolds!
Bourton on the Water
To start with the staff were excel and extremely helpful. Apartments was finished to a high standard and very comfortable. Location couldn't be better and perfect for driving out to other places around the cotswolds. Breakfast in the morning was beautiful in the Croft restaurant. We also ate an evening meal in the restaurant and couldn't fault it. 5*
Cirencester
Apartment very smart - much better than its website photos. Lovely and spacious, nicely furnished. Excellent location near the centre of historic Cirencester, and very good value for the (expensive) Cotswolds. Apartment over two floors above a hairdressers. We stayed Sat night to Sunday so did not need to try out public parking arrangements.
Burford
The staff at this wonderful 500 year old property were exceptional, very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We had a very good room in the Coach House. We ate both breakfast and dinner on both days of our two night stay and the food and service was very good. We will definitely return to this hotel when next in the Cotswolds
Moreton in Marsh
Beautifully decorated apartment with everything you need for a weekend trip to the Cotswolds. We stayed in Lapwing and it was spacious, clean and comfortable. Apartment is in a fantastic location and the hosts are very friendly and welcoming. The bottle of prosecco and box of goodies were a nice surprise on arrival. Thank you!
Bourton on the Water
Excellent breakfast, short distance to local restaurants and Bourton on the Water centre, ideal location for discovering the Cotswolds, cleanliness of the whole of the Hotel the friendliness and support of the owners. The access to a well laid out garden where you could bush out in the open air after a days touring the area.
Broadway
Excellent central location in Broadway, perfect for shopping and eating out, and walking the numerous public footpaths on the Cotswolds Way. Free parking is a bonus for exploring further afield. Apartment is comfortable, clean, and well equipped. Pricey per night but so is everywhere in this area.
The Swan Hotel was wonderful. The room was large with a nice bathroom. The linens were luxurious and the room was clean. The food in the restaurant was excellent - tasty for both dinner and breakfast. The staff was helpful and professional. The location was great for visiting the Cotswolds.
Breakfast was good. Fantastic location for a visitor to the Cotswolds. Not far from a train by car/taxi and walking distance for the towns facilities, shops and restaurants. Lovely traditional architecture. Hotel has lots of character and potential style, pleasant environment.
This is a great place, with an excellent breakfast, comfortable bed and fantastic grounds. Very friendly to EV drivers, arranging for overnight charging. The room we booked was enormous, and the location of the hotel is great to get into Cheltenham or the Cotswolds AONB
We had a lovely room with plenty of space. Reception staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The location was ideal for visiting in the North Cotswolds area. The breakfast was standard hotel fare and plentiful.
The Hotel is located in a very good position, in the beautiful Cotswolds. The room we were given was very spacious and featured some nice exposed wooden beams, which add to the character of the place.
Such a beautiful hotel that was in the perfect location for exploring Bourton on the Water and The Cotswolds. We would definitely stay here again and will recommend to others.
