I came with my mom and brother and we stayed in a Japanese style room and opted for the public onsen, which we used at night after dinner. There were probably only 5-6 women in there at the time, not crowded or busy. I wasn't expecting much, but the dinner and breakfast buffet were a pleasant experience, especially since we didn't feel like going out of our way to find a good food place in Hakone. It's an absolutely beautiful hotel as well and the people helping us at the front desk offer great service and spoke English well, which made our experience so easy. As a budget traveler, I was a little nervous to spend $350 for a night here, but it was worth the money and experience. (And of course, everything was clean, functional, etc. Just assume the bare minimums are easily covered).”

Owner made sure we had everything we needed to be comfortable. Owner took the time to ask about our plans and make sure we knew how to get where we wanted to go and made a good recommendation for a traditional polish meal within walking distance. We had a nice breakfast with a variety of options including yogurt, breads and spreads, scrambled eggs, meats, cheeses, vegetables and boiled eggs. Room was clean. Beds were comfortable. The Inn is charming. We were in the area to watch a bike race. We were able to walk to and from the gondola base.”

  Twice we had to ask for towels because the removed old ones and didn’t replace- rusty baseboards in bathroom- no free breakfast - no table in room - horrible shallow bathroom sink never seen this design before and hated it because it didn’t drain properly so things just floated

  I left as soon as I documented everything and communicated via text with the owner. The whole house smelled bad. Someone slept in my bed and pulled the covers up. No clean sheets, no bed made. Mold on the coffee in the coffee pot. The stove so filthy, days and weeks of filth. The fridge is filthy, and the sink was full of dishes that have been there for days as well with food left overs on the plates. I couldn't figure out what the smell was, but it was suffocating. After I left I began sneezing and woke up with a heavy head the day after even though I slept in clean new accommodations. The fist thing that greets you is the smell. I went to my room and it had french doors. I thought I'd open the doors and I'll be fine. I was so tired after 18 hours of driving. I texted the owner asking that they'd bring me some cleaning supplies for the kitchen and decided to go to bed. The room was very dusty as well, but I was exhausted and had a full schedule and I preferred not to have to look for a different place and wait for checking time in the afternoon. I had arrived around 8:30 am on the 15 although I made a reservation for the 14th because of hours of delay on the highway and charging my electric car. It seems like the house is occupied by roommates, not travelers.

  Being a late check in it took staff approximately 20 minutes to be checked in. Upon check in we were told only 2 queen beds were available and were also asked to only use 1 bed. Front door lock didn't work. Bedsheets were riddled with cigarette burns. Mirrors were covered in graffity. Overall a slumfor a hotel/motel.
