I came with my mom and brother and we stayed in a Japanese style room and opted for the public onsen, which we used at night after dinner. There were probably only 5-6 women in there at the time, not crowded or busy. I wasn't expecting much, but the dinner and breakfast buffet were a pleasant experience, especially since we didn't feel like going out of our way to find a good food place in Hakone. It's an absolutely beautiful hotel as well and the people helping us at the front desk offer great service and spoke English well, which made our experience so easy. As a budget traveler, I was a little nervous to spend $350 for a night here, but it was worth the money and experience. (And of course, everything was clean, functional, etc. Just assume the bare minimums are easily covered).”

  The Hotel was beautiful with a 1930's vibe and the room was very spacious and luxurious looking. It had a mini fridge, microwave, hair dryer, coffee machine and plenty of chairs and desks, including an extra sink outside of the bathroom area. The bed was very comfortable too, as were the plush pillows. I loved that breakfast was included, like pastries, oatmeal, an assortment of breads, fruit, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, granola, lattes and juices.

  I didn't like that the Hotel is located in a bad neighborhood. It is scary to be heading back to the Hotel at night because of the sketchy men out and about in the streets. Even though the subway is nearby the tunnels are full of guys hanging around either selling drugs or looking to cause trouble. Once inside the hotel then it felt safe.

  Towels were great quality. Breakfast was varied, but late start at 8:30 (and were told it was 8), sausage always cold. But many other items on hand. Close to the pier and beach.

  Staff seemed limited, it was rare to have someone available to ask for missing items (hairdryer, towel). Bed was not really comfortable, and very thin pillows. Top sheet was not tucked in on the bottom the first night (which was discovered in the middle of the night). Housekeeping was not automatic, you had to put out the card on the door, which we learned after the first full day.
