I came with my mom and brother and we stayed in a Japanese style room and opted for the public onsen, which we used at night after dinner. There were probably only 5-6 women in there at the time, not crowded or busy. I wasn't expecting much, but the dinner and breakfast buffet were a pleasant experience, especially since we didn't feel like going out of our way to find a good food place in Hakone. It's an absolutely beautiful hotel as well and the people helping us at the front desk offer great service and spoke English well, which made our experience so easy. As a budget traveler, I was a little nervous to spend $350 for a night here, but it was worth the money and experience. (And of course, everything was clean, functional, etc. Just assume the bare minimums are easily covered).”

  Beautiful property nestled along the river, just a short walk to the beach but far enough from the main area to avoid the summer crowds. Our room was stunning, with a lovely view of the river right off the main floor. The screened-in porch was the perfect spot to relax and enjoy both sunrise and sunset.

  The only downside, and it’s minor, is breakfast is served later than my husband and I are used to. We are early riser and are usually ready to be out and about by 8 AM. I will say that the team there is fabulous and there were days Where they tried to get it out sooner for the guest, which is amazing and says a lot about their culture and hospitality.

  The large walk-in shower with 12 wall shower heads, two waterfall shower heads, and a large overhead rain shower head is GREAT! Great water pressure & lots of hot water. Same with the spa whirlpool tub. It fills fast, has good jets & is plenty big enough for two. Great addition also, having our own sauna in the room. Everything was clean and orderly. Also nice, is having your own little back patio complete with chairs & a small table that overlooks a wooded area. Good breakfast with a very tasty potatoes & sausage dish, waffles, good selection of pastries, cereals, yogurt, coffees, juices & all the things you would expect.

  Needs a clock radio. I think they're currently having an issue with the pool smelling musty, (humidifiers running in the hallway) and our room was near the pool so it kinda smelled that way too, but we opened up our door to the patio for a while & it aired out. This is an older hotel. It needs updates, especially in the downstairs hallway. My advice is to not pay too much attention to the rest of the hotel, because it's a whole different world when you enter the Fantasy Suites rooms and they are GREAT!
