- “This was my first time visiting Japan and have heard people recommend a ryokan+onsen experience, especially in Hakone. I'm so glad I did it here! I came with my mom and brother and we stayed in a Japanese style room and opted for the public onsen, which we used at night after dinner. There were probably only 5-6 women in there at the time, not crowded or busy. I wasn't expecting much, but the dinner and breakfast buffet were a pleasant experience, especially since we didn't feel like going out of our way to find a good food place in Hakone. It's an absolutely beautiful hotel as well and the people helping us at the front desk offer great service and spoke English well, which made our experience so easy. As a budget traveler, I was a little nervous to spend $350 for a night here, but it was worth the money and experience. (And of course, everything was clean, functional, etc. Just assume the bare minimums are easily covered).”

  It was a quiet area and the room was clean. The staff was nice and helpful. We loved the complimentary breakfast that included a choice of juice, Coffee, bagels, make your own waffles, toast, scrambled eggs, ham or sausage, muffins, etc.

  The room had a damp feeling (like they just washed the rug and the room was closed without the AC on), and the beach is across the street but you have to walk behind another hotel and then down a short boardwalk/sidewalk, so quite a walk with all you bring with you (we forgot our cart but you can rent a wagon at the hotel but they don’t have beach towels to use).

  Location was really good. Staff was friendly, room was clean. Nice having vanity outside of the bathroom. Good water pressure. WiFi wasn’t naggy about needing fresh sign-ins. Josh at the front desk was especially helpful and cheerful.

  All beds, in every room, are the hardest I've ever experienced in America. They are Italy-level hard. Like sleeping on a door. Several people slept on the couches.

  The hidabed in the couch was broken, missing springs in the entire bottom, rendering it unusable, and had blood stains. Corners of the room were full of cobwebs. The tub and sink wouldn't drain unless you're holding the drain switch down and then only drained slowly. Floors were obviously not cleaned, with random debris found behind most stands.

  The parking was horrible, Friday night there was NO parking available so I had to park in a public parking spot and came back out to a parking ticket. I thought it was ocean front but was ocean view. The balconies were set up so you could see the balconies on that floor and it felt weird.
