We camp for a week then stay at the Mercantile to clean our dishes, cloths, and air out anything that needs it before another week of camping. The Mercantile is perfect. It is a family business and we always feel welcome. They have made improvements every year. Always look forward to staying here.

The continental breakfast had a great variety and tasted great. The morning breakfast staff was so nice and helpful. The pool was large and clean, the cabana spot with chairs was appreciated, and the hot tub was nice.

The room smelled terribly of smoke and never went away, the pillows were dirty, side of bed skirts stained and dirty, faucet in bathroom coming out of the wall(could see mold around faucet and grab bar), walls were dirty, and the air conditioner filter was extremely dusty and dirty and my husband got very sick from use of it. Also, the pool and hot tub were nice but were used daily by outside people not staying at the hotel. Every morning the pool was used by an older women's exercise group and on another night a single exerciser came in with her gear and loud speaker blaring her music while others swam. We rarely saw staff at the front counter and had to ring a bell for service every time. They never had pool towels out and had to go find someone each time for towels. It was also very loud at night with people talking/shouting past 12am and doors slamming. Housekeeping was not great. They didn't take our overflowing trash and didn't always replace the towels that we placed on the floor for new ones. The bathroom had no exhaust fan and would get so wet after each shower, door was warped from water condensation and hinges all rusty. We also found a huge wolf spider(with many spider babies on her back) in our bathroom underneath the bath mat on the floor. They all scattered when we tried to kill them. Saw another huge wolf spider on our last day going after another bug on the floor.

The bathroom fan made alot of noise, the air conditioner sounded like a jet airplane, the outside of the building appeared poorly kept and in need of maintenance. Balconies and stairs were delapidating to the point of being a trip hazzard, No continental breakfast, and the coffee station was inadequate. The guy behind the counter was slovulun, slow and curt.

Bed was comfortable. Room was spacious and quiet. The small refrigerator came in handy. I used the exercise room. It met my expectations. Breakfast offered a full array of choices. Overall, the stay was an excellent value.

Two waffle irons are needed. The waffle iron that was available was slow to heat and there were a lot of people waiting to use it. Breakfast room staff (an older woman) was not particularly pleasant that morning. I have allergies and noticed that the pillows were dusty. Problem was solved by folding and placing a large bath towel on top of the pillow.
