- “This was my first time visiting Japan and have heard people recommend a ryokan+onsen experience, especially in Hakone. I'm so glad I did it here! I came with my mom and brother and we stayed in a Japanese style room and opted for the public onsen, which we used at night after dinner. There were probably only 5-6 women in there at the time, not crowded or busy. I wasn't expecting much, but the dinner and breakfast buffet were a pleasant experience, especially since we didn't feel like going out of our way to find a good food place in Hakone. It's an absolutely beautiful hotel as well and the people helping us at the front desk offer great service and spoke English well, which made our experience so easy. As a budget traveler, I was a little nervous to spend $350 for a night here, but it was worth the money and experience. (And of course, everything was clean, functional, etc. Just assume the bare minimums are easily covered).”

Owner made sure we had everything we needed to be comfortable. Owner took the time to ask about our plans and make sure we knew how to get where we wanted to go and made a good recommendation for a traditional polish meal within walking distance. We had a nice breakfast with a variety of options including yogurt, breads and spreads, scrambled eggs, meats, cheeses, vegetables and boiled eggs. Room was clean. Beds were comfortable. The Inn is charming. We were in the area to watch a bike race. We were able to walk to and from the gondola base.”

  loved the location of the hotel to the airport. It was also a great price (the most affordable hotel near the area), and the staff at the front desk were very pleasant and helpful when we checked in late at night.

  One of the drivers of the airport shuttle. He was very unprofessional and made concerning and inappropriate comments pertaining to politics and our views / beliefs on the drive to the airport. Once he realized we didn’t agree with his comments, he badgered us about our views even as he was getting our luggage out of the back of the shuttle. He also wouldn’t load our luggage in the back of the shuttle on the way to the airport telling us “you packed it, you lift it”. We placed them in the back without issue, thinking maybe he had an injury and was unable to. Once we got to the airport, he lifted them out of the back which was a bit confusing, but nonetheless we appreciated it. I reported the incident to the hotel and they said they would make note of the occurrence and address it accordingly. While we respect other people’s views and freedom to voice them, it was 4:30 in the morning, and this was not something we wanted to experience before a long travel day, especially when someone’s job is to get us from point A to point B. We really liked the property itself along with the rest of the staff, but wouldn’t stay there again because of this incident.

  Nice breakfast. Good pool area. Room could use some update, But was clean.

  A group of adult males were playing loud music in the pool area. Loud enough that we could not carry on a conversation setting next to each other. When we asked the front desk person to ask them to turn it down he did not respond in a timely manner. Will pay more to stay across the road next time we are in town.

  Rips in the furniture covered by a sheet. Noticeable huge dirt stains all over couch. Dirt and spilled liquid stains on cushion of only chair provided in the room. Only 2 plates, 2 glasses, 1 large spoon, 2 forks, and a small pot and a small pan in a room to accommodate 4 people. Dirty smell in the hallway. Never had coffee available although offered. Purchased own toilet paper.

  Breakfast was great, lots of choices. Enjoyed breakfast every day. Visiting family that live near the hotel, so was very convenient for me to stay there. I have no complaints about my stay at the Hampton.
