“Location: Fantastic location at the top of the historic and commercial districts; restaurants, cafés, shops right outside the door. No city or river view, however. Greeting and first impressions: The exterior of the hotel looks like a 1950s commercial building, but the first step inside presents solid historical Portuguese: a mixture of glam and experienced history. We had arrived by rental car but didn't know where to park it. One of us went into the reception area, asked the bellman, and he immediately came back with us to the car, explained the off-site parking, took the keys and headed off to park. If he hadn't been uniformed and in the lobby, we'd have been worried that we just gave our car away! But his response was emblematic of the service in the hotel: immediate, good natured, effective. The staff at the reception desk were enormously personable, efficient and helpful. They insisted that we start with a glass of Port (one red and one white so that we could taste the differences). They whipped out a tourist map and marked quite a few of the most interesting destinations. Great positive energy. The room: Clean, light and airy. Not particularly large. Real retro design: red, black, a little heavy baroque, a little 50s. Bathroom was tight, and the time since the last renovation (like 50 years!) was apparent. The management seems to keep the hotel clean and tidy, but they also know that a major renovation is due. We were told that that may happen in the next year or so. Comfortable bed with good linens. Heavy adequately-sized robes. Service: Excellent. Personable and good natured. Breakfast: Nice generous breakfast buffet with the expected combination of continental and English breakfast offerings. Sparkling wine if you want! Fresh-squeezed orange juice. Grand spacious chandeliered dining room. Value: For this 5-star property, very affordable. Perhaps after a renovation the prices will climb, so visit now!”

The staff worked hard to keep the food restocked with hot and fresh choices. One of the greatest benefits is the awesome staff. All were nice and professional and assisted whenever needed. Maria, was particularly accommodating, answering several questions about the area, dinner choices, and sight-seeing. Also, upon checkout (we had to leave at 5:00 am to catch a 7:00 am flight), one young man (unfortunately, I did not get his name), checked us out promptly. When my husband realized his phone needed charging, he offered to plug it in behind the desk. He also watched for our taxi to arrive as we waited. Overall, they do it right at Flores!”

The closest metro stop appears to be the San Bento stop, which could be difficult to traverse to/from the hotel if toting a lot or heavy suitcases, but a taxi ride to/from the airport is only approximately 22-23 EU each way per taxi (not per person). The Staff was amazing: all superbly friendly and helpful with recommendations and assistance! Jorge even secured reservations to an excellent close-by restaurant complete with Fado! The rooms were clean and very comfortable with wonderful air conditioning and a small refrigerator! The WiFi was a bit challenging, but it appears that WiFi could be difficult in most places throughout Porto. The breakfast was delicious with a good variety of fresh fruit and juices, coffee, cold cuts and cheeses, yogurts, muesli, eggs, bacon, and a wide assortment of breads and homemade baked cakes to include a gluten-free cake! I have already recommended The House Ribeira Porto Hotel to friends, and we will definitely stay there again if we have another opportunity! Thank you, House!!!”

The housekeeper was so lovely, she was always willing to show us how to work things when we forgot! The room was lofty with a mezzanine for sleeping on and there was a fully equipped kitchen. The tv showed English speaking movies. The area had several eateries and a supermarket for all your needs and wine! In the evenings take a walk past the jetty and there is a man selling hot chestnuts. If you opt for the breakfast you won't be disappointed, It was so tastefully presented, in a basket outside your door. Nothing was wanting, so ample and delicious. The view from our room was just lovely, there is a jetty and lighthouse( great photo opportunities) The bed was comfortable and the sheets crisp. “It's 15 minutes from the city centre and 2 from the nearest metro stations; has the shops nearly. Pedro was amazingly helpful and with good english, everyone else just amazingly helpful and with good sign language :-) The room was clean, bathroom new and big and everything worked correctly. Breakfast is quite good, in fact - you have couple of pastery, butter, fine coffee and hot milk and some cheese/meat. We also bought some yogurts, but just because we used to eat a lot for the breakfast. The fridge is public, you can store everything you have, and kitchen looks good (but we hadn't used it, only fridge). There is air conditioning system in the room (which we used in June as air heating system, in fact - nights are pretty chilly). But we had like 8 warm blankets in our room - I don't know if it was just stored there or it's standard practice for Porto. Also our room had direct door (and the window at same time) to breakfast terrace.”

The room was very comfortable, Internet was fine and the breakfast - so good!. We were only disappointed we could not sit in the lovely gardens in the back ( it rained most of the time we were there). Easy walk to town. Highly recommend!”

ULTRA CONVENIENT! Lastly, the attic aparment was just perfectly cosy. Aircon worked really well. Room had a balcony, perfect for smokers. Trully loved this place, and honestly I do not think you could find anything better in Porto.”

“It was our most cozy stay during our honey moon spent in Portugal! The stuff and the owner Nuno gave us such a warm welcome! They were so caring and attentive to all our needs that I can't explain how I'm grateful. Nuno can also with pleasure tell you a lot about Porto - we used all his advice and spent a great time there. Hostel is located in old building with cupola above the stairs which is great, and all the rooms and living room are decorated with amazing pictures painted by Nuno and his wife themselves and it gives to hostel a very special mood. We stayed in a very nice room for two upstairs, and we felt like at home here and strongly recommend Alegria to everyone!!”
